The Compass Hook is made, finished and polished in Sydney, Australia using sand-casted Gunmetal Bronze. For its size, it can bear a surprisingly substantial heft.
Sand-casting involves liquefying metal and pouring it into a sand mould. The Compass Hook is designed around the arcs of a compass; the intersecting lines giving it a feeling of sturdy utility.
Hooks are manufactured in small batches so slight variations will occur from piece to piece. Production marks may include slight pour ripples or surface pitting.
Please note that the finish of this piece will arrive brighter than the reference images. The original finish will oxidise and darken over time to reveal a distinctive patina. If preferred, to maintain a shiny brass finish, use a quality metal polish to restore brightness.
Henry Wilson is designer living and working in Sydney. He studied at the Australian National University School of Art in Canberra, graduating with first class honours in visual arts, specialising in woodwork. During his time at ANU he went on exchange to Rhode Island School of Design. He then moved to Europe to do his Masters at the Design Academy Eindhoven before returning to Sydney to set up his own studio in 2012.
