Corsica Mandarin trees originated in France and were grown throughout the Mediterranean region. They are a variety of clementine mandarin and are known for their easy peel, juicy fruit. The Corsica fruit starts off slightly tart and sweetens with age. The fruit is typically round or slightly oval and it has a thin, bright orange skin. Corsica mandarin trees produce fruit from April to June but can hang on the tree for a several months.
Corsica No. 2 are a popular choice for both fresh eating and cooking. Corsica is a lovely specimen tree, especially when it has new pale green growth next to the previous year's dark green leaves. They are relatively easy to care for, making them a popular choice for home gardeners. Like all of our citrus, Corsica trees are grafted onto trifoliata rootstock. This makes the tree more resistant to extremes in climate and pests and diseases.
The family's youngsters recon this is the best mandarin. They love the flavour, it's easy to peel and the fruit has a few pips. This is a bonus for them as they love playing with the pips, often piling them up as high as they can. Note: they get lots of pips because they eat heaps of Corsica mandarins, not because they mandarins have heaps of pips.
